What it pays for
Hours, mostly. A chapter of Linux Inside means reading kernel source until it makes sense, building and booting the thing to check that it behaves the way the code suggests, and then writing it down so it makes sense to someone who has not read it - usually several times over.
Support goes into that: finishing the Linux Inside rewrite, keeping the x86_64 assembly series current, and the machines and hosting the experiments behind the field notes run on.
Ways to help that cost nothing
Money is the smallest part of it. These are worth as much:
- Star linux-insides It is how most readers find the book in the first place.
- Report an error A wrong offset, a stale kernel version, a paragraph that does not parse - open an issue. Corrections from readers are how the books stay accurate.
- Tell me what to write next The part of the stack you have never been able to get a straight answer about is a good candidate for a chapter.
- Subscribe to the feed And pass a chapter on when something lands that a colleague has been struggling with.
